Our Judges

Lim U-Jin

U-Jin Lim is currently Trinity’s Regional Academic Consultant for the South-East Asia region. He assisted in the formation of the undergraduate music programme at the Cultural Centre of University Malaya in 1998, where he taught piano performance and theory of music for over a period of 12 years, as the department’s Head of Instrumental Studies and course leader for Music Theory.

Chee Su-yen

Malaysian pianist Su-yen Chee has established herself both as a soloist and chamber musician. She has given solo and collaborative recitals in the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. She has been participating in the KL Piano Gala concerts yearly since 2013. Su-yen has worked extensively with both instrumentalists and vocalists.

Benjamin Loh

A native of Singapore, Steinway Artist Benjamin Loh is on the piano faculty of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and the LASALLE College of the Arts, and also maintains an active private teaching studio. Loh studied at the Manhattan School of Music, where he graduated with a Master of Music in Piano Performance. He holds a Special Recognition Award by the Ministry of Information.

Jaz Tan

Jaz Tan is currently the Director of Elysee Music School at Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya, specializing in piano, harp and Kindermusik education. Apart from being a solo pianist, she also works as a collaborative pianist and performed in many choral. She performed in the 1st Asian Grand Piano Concert at the Plenary Hall of Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (2009).

Lee Yin Hwa

A native of Malaysia, Lee Yin Hwa, obtained his Bachelors and Masters from Western Illinois University, and a one-year post-graduate study at Boston University under the Dean’s scholarship. His principal teachers include Prof. Anthony Di Bonaventura, Prof. Dr Michael Campbell, James Magsig, Rickie Oui and Serena Chow. Yin Hwa is a well sought after clinician and adjudicator.

Nam Yeung

Dr. Nam Yeung is currently a full time piano professor in the Music Department at the Tainan University of Technology, Taiwan. At the same time, he serves as the special visiting professor at Hansel University, South Korea. Dr. Yeung has been invited numerous times as a guest artist and has presented master classes and concerts at universities and festivals.

Poon Chiew Hwa

A native of Malaysia, Poon Chiew Hwa has performed in the United States, Mexico, Spain and Malaysia. Chiew Hwa has been a recipient of numerous awards. She won first place at the 2009 Missouri Music Teachers Association state piano competition and was chosen as the alternate winner of Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Competition (State-2009).

Simon Callaghan

Performs internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, in parallel with a highly successful career as a recording artist. A favourite performer at the internationally-renowned Husum Festival of Piano Rarities in Germany, Callaghan’s recent sell-out concert was praised by VAN Magazine as a “cleverly curated recital full of discoveries”.

Hee Jung Choi

Hee Jung Choi, a Korean pianist residing in Malaysia, obtained her Master Degree from Western Illinois University where she was awarded with the Graduate Assistant Award. While at WIU, Hee Jung has won concerto competitions as a soloist and as a trio ensemble. She attended her post-graduate program as a recipient of the prestigious John Simms Piano Award.

Ricky Tsang

A Hong Kong versatile Pianist, Pedagogue and Entrepreneur, Ricky Tsang has performed in local, mainland China, Southeast Asia, the USA and toured Australia with engagements from Qantas Airways and Jayday Music as presented as First Prize of International Inter-School Performance Challenge Award of Australiaand also was featured as guest artist in 39th St.
