Meet Gaia Brisbie Narwastu
Gaia Brisbie Narwastu Putrichandra is a 17-year-old student from SMA Regina Pacis Bogor, West Java, Indonesia. With her deep love for classical music, Gaia achieved a prestigious milestone by winning 1st Award Winner in the Vocal Opera and Art Songs – Senior Class at the HKYPA Final Round 2025 held in Hong Kong.
Path to the HKYPA Final
Gaia’s journey began with the Indonesian preliminary round in September 2024, where she qualified to compete at the international level. With five months to prepare for the final round in February 2025, she committed herself to intense vocal training and artistic development.
Repertoire and Preparation
Her mentor, Mrs. Binu Sukaman, guided her in selecting two pieces: Amarilli Mia Bella and Kisah Mawar di Malam Hari. The second piece was specially chosen to introduce Indonesian classical compositions to the international audience, reflecting Gaia’s role as a cultural ambassador through music.
Victory at the Final Round
In Hong Kong, Gaia performed her selected repertoire in front of an international panel of judges and a global audience. Her expressive interpretation and technical precision earned her the top honor in her category. Her achievement highlights the growing presence and excellence of Indonesian musicians in the global classical music scene.
Through her performance, Gaia showcased the rich cultural heritage of Indonesia, particularly with the inclusion of Kisah Mawar di Malam Hari. This not only impressed the judges but also introduced many to the beauty of Indonesian classical music.
Future Path
Currently a student in Grade XI of high school, Gaia aims to further her studies in music and continue performing in international competitions. Her victory at HKYPA 2025 stands as a stepping stone to a promising musical career.
